The Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong (SFC) has recently issued warnings against two trading platforms, HKCEXP and EDY, for suspected fraudulent activities. These alerts underline the growing concern over unregulated virtual asset trading platforms and their operations within Hong Kong. The SFC’s official statement points out the critical discrepancies and false claims made by these platforms, reflecting a broader issue of transparency and legality in the burgeoning field of cryptocurrency trading.

EDY, claimed to be a virtual asset trading platform, has been called out for its false affiliation with reputable financial institutions in Hong Kong and for developing a digital token system that does not exist. Investors have voiced their struggles with withdrawing their funds after making deposits, hinting at potential fraudulent practices. Similar grievances have been shared about HKCEXP, which falsely advertises itself as an SFC-registered company operating under a counterfeit Hong Kong address. The platform has reportedly coerced investors into paying hefty fees disguised as taxes to release their funds, further signaling its deceptive operations.

In light of these findings, the SFC has advised the public to exercise caution and verify the legitimacy of trading platforms before engaging with them. This guidance comes alongside another warning issued by the SFC concerning Bybit, a cryptocurrency exchange operating without the necessary licenses in Hong Kong. The SFC identified several unlicensed offerings by Bybit, posing significant financial risks to investors. These developments highlight the SFC’s efforts to protect investors and regulate the rapidly evolving crypto market, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards. The regulatory body’s proactive stance serves as a reminder of the importance of due diligence and regulatory compliance in safeguarding investments in the digital asset space.
