The Bank of Spain has recently come to a decision that Adhara, an eminent platform for treasury and transactional payments, along with a consortium made up of the established Cecabank and Abanca, two of the privatised banks, will be playing the role of collaborators for the imminent series of trials concerning the wholesale central bank digital currency (CBDC). Interestingly, these trials will be conducted independent of the ongoing process involving the digital euro.
Under this promising partnership, the Bank of Spain plans to test a wholesale central bank digital currency (CBDC). This partnership aims to utilize Adhara’s experience and expertise as a Web3 company and the client network of Cecabank and Abanca, in designing and executing different platforms that would entail the wholesale CBDC. More specifically, Adhara will be primarily focused on achieving interbank payments both with equivalent tokenized wholesale CBDC and multiple wholesale CBDCs issued by various central banks. To accomplish this, Adhara will have to come up with numerous CBDC infrastructures that will suffice to supply wallets to the entities involved and a digital platform dedicated to interbank payments.
