Elon Musk’s multinational corporation, Tesla, has recently showcased its Gen 2 Optimus robot through a post on the company’s dedicated Tesla Optimus Twitter account. The post caption, “There’s a new bot in town. Check this out (until the very end)!”, hinted at the impressive capabilities of the robot. In the contained video, the Gen 2 Optimus robot is seen displaying an array of incredibly human-like movements.
These include the examination of its nimble 11-DoF hands, performing squats to demonstrate its upgraded balance, and manipulating an egg with its forefinger and thumb to highlight tactile sensing skills. The advancements of the robot span an array of characteristics including a 2-DoF actuated neck, integrated electronics and harnessing of actuators, a 30% increase in walking speed, foot force and torque sensing, and 10kg reduction in weight among other features. First introduced at Tesla’s Artificial Intelligence Day event in 2021, the robot despite skepticism, could signal a significant branch out for Tesla beyond automotive, according to Elon Musk.
