Bitcoin’s ascent past the $41,000 mark has sparked considerable excitement and chatter among traders in the cryptocurrency market. Data from on-chain analytics firm Santiment suggests that Bitcoin’s social dominance—an indicator based on the amount of ongoing discussion about Bitcoin on major social platforms—has noticeably spiked following Bitcoin’s recent price increase, demonstrating signs of traders’ euphoria. Essentially, social dominance measures the visibility and buzz around any given coin compared to the top 100 cryptocurrencies overall, hence, it tends to surge when the mindshare around a particular asset grows among social media users.

The graph presented by Santiment depicts a significant increase in Bitcoin’s social dominance when its price crossed the $40,000 mark. This suggests that the traders’ focus has progressively shifted toward Bitcoin following its recent rally. Nevertheless, while the increase in attention and interest can be viewed favorably in terms of market growth, excessive hype has, in the past, proven to be a double-edged sword for Bitcoin. As seen in the past, specifically in March last year, Bitcoin’s rally decelerated significantly following substantial spikes in social volume and dominance. With the recent values of social dominance climbing even higher, there’s an underlying concern about Bitcoin’s prospects to rally towards the $50,000 mark. Despite such apprehensions, Bitcoin has so far managed to relentlessly progress, breaking past the $41,000 barrier. Therefore, the possibility of Bitcoin’s rally continues to depend heavily on the sentiment of ongoing discussions—whether they’re significantly bullish or bearish. As Santiment concisely explains, the fluctuating emotions of Fear, Uncertainty, Doubt (FUD) and Fear Of Missing Out (FOMO) surrounding the ongoing Bitcoin ETF confirmation dates may well determine if the $50,000 level will be attained sooner rather than later.
