Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has addressed recent reports claiming that he has been selling Ethereum (ETH) and other cryptocurrencies for personal gain. Buterin clarified that the recent transfers from his wallets were actually donations made to various charitable organizations, nonprofits, and projects. He stated that if any articles suggested he was selling ETH, it was likely because he was donating to a charity or nonprofit, and they were selling the cryptocurrency to cover expenses. Buterin emphasized that he hasn’t sold ETH for personal gain since 2018.
This clarification from Buterin comes in response to rumors circulating in the crypto community that he had been offloading millions of dollars worth of ETH and other crypto assets. It’s worth noting that in December 2017, Buterin previously liquidated a substantial amount of cryptocurrency holdings, which had a significant impact on the Ethereum market. However, he emphasized that this was the last time he had planned to sell his crypto holdings for personal gain. Despite the controversy, Buterin’s recent transfers of funds were actually related to his dedication to philanthropic efforts, including a $15 million USDC transfer to the Gemini cryptocurrency exchange, which belonged to the biotechnology charity he founded.
