In a move to compete with Twitter, Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta Platforms, recently launched Threads, a thread-based conversation platform on Instagram. The app was well-received, with some users even comparing it to the early days of forum posting on the internet. However, Threads was initially lacking key features that make Twitter convenient, such as full availability on a web browser. While users could post on Threads via the mobile app, the web version was read-only.
According to sources familiar with the matter, a functional browser version of Threads could be released as early as this week. The introduction of a web version will improve the app’s functionality and could attract more users. Since its initial launch, Threads has experienced a significant decline in popularity, with daily active users dropping by 80%. However, recent updates, such as the addition of chronological timeline features and search functions, show that Threads is closing the gap between its capabilities and those of its competitor, Twitter.
