The recent Outer Edge forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, marks a significant milestone in the Kingdom’s journey towards becoming a global innovation hub. Co-hosted by Edge of Co., Animoca Brands, The Garage, and other Saudi business entities, the event attracted over 700 attendees worldwide. This gathering underscores Saudi Arabia’s ambitious vision to harness the power of emerging technologies such as Web3, blockchain, AI, and gaming for economic and social development. The involvement of Animoca Brands, a key player in digital entertainment, blockchain, and gamification, alongside local partners such as The Garage, an incubator for tech startups, signifies a strong collaborative effort to push the boundaries of technology and creativity in the region.
The forum was graced by a keynote speech from H.R.H Prince Faisal bin Bandar Bin Sultan, Chairman of the Saudi Esports Federation, who highlighted the transformational role of gaming in fostering social cohesion, innovation, and empowerment. His message emphasized the Kingdom’s strategic initiatives to position itself as a leading hub for gaming, esports, and technological innovation. Panel discussions at the forum delved into the implications of decentralized Web3 and AI technology on economic systems and society, aiming to raise awareness and recognize human potential. The event also featured unique artworks by Saudi emerging artists, curated by Nuqtah, Saudi’s first NFT marketplace. The closing was marked by a performance from the successful Saudi DJ duo, DISH DASH.
Animoca Brands’ COO Minh Do remarked on Saudi Arabia’s ambitious stance in the global arena, expressing enthusiasm for further developing Web3 and human development initiatives in the region. This commitment is aligned with Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the economy and develop public service sectors such as health, education, infrastructure, recreation, and tourism. The establishment of a physical Web3 hub in Riyadh is among the planned projects, intended to amplify research and development in esports, gaming, blockchain, Web3, and AI. This initiative reflects a significant step towards realizing the potential of decentralization and digital economies in the Middle East, backed by the strategic partnership of international and local entities.
