Jamie Dimon, the CEO of JPMorgan, created quite the stir in the cryptocurrency world during his recent interview with CNBC at Davos 2024. Highlighting an insightful argument, Dimon postulated that Bitcoin (BTC) might be eradicated once its capped supply is issued. He also speculated about the potential laugh from Satoshi Nakamato, Bitcoin’s creator, when the cryptocurrency’s last coin would be mined. The crux of his theory lies in the thought that with the mining of the final bitcoin, Satoshi would reappear and eradicate the entirety of Bitcoin.

On the contrary, Dimon also suggested that there is no assurance that Bitcoin issuance will cease once the circulating supply tops 21 million BTC. This notion stirred a considerable debate, even among his co-panellists like CNBC Squawk Box host Joe Kernen. The CEO’s latest theories have spurred substantial backlash on social media due to their theoretical nature. Many stipulate that them as inaccurate or unfounded, given that Satoshi Nakamoto, despite being the creator, doesn’t have authority over the blockchain or its miners. The harsh criticism is further fueled by the fact that Dimon mispronounced “Satoshi” during the interview.
