Eric Balchunas, an analyst with Bloomberg, has questioned whether cryptocurrency exchanges will need to reevaluate their pricing structures if a spot Bitcoin ETF gets approved, due to the relatively low-cost fees offered by some major players. Caitlin Long from digital asset custody platform Custodia has suggested that extremely low ETF fees may indicate a difficulty in covering costs for issuers, which could lead to their resorting to security lending to offset possible losses.
Spot Bitcoin ETFs applicants have stated in their prospectus submissions that their Bitcoin stock will be kept in cold storage as opposed to being rented out, though it is feasible for ETF shares to be lent out if they have collateral to support the transaction.
