According to a recent CoinGecko report, cryptocurrency enthusiasm in El Salvador is lagging behind in spite of the government’s ongoing efforts to favor widespread cryptocurrency adoption. This report sheds light on the paradoxical nature of crypto acceptance in the region, given that El Salvador stands alone as the only nation on the planet using cryptocurrency as a legal method of exchange. Nevertheless, the lack of crypto ownership among the Salvadoran population is evident based on the data presented.
More specifically, the CoinGecko report published on December 7 explicitly points out that a marginal percentage of Salvadorans are current Bitcoin owners. Data from Triple A reveals that approximately 109,175 individuals out of El Salvador’s population of 6.36 million, at this point own Bitcoin, which equates to a meager 1.72% of the country’s population. Looking at this statistics, it proves that despite crypto-friendly initiatives by the government, Salvadoran’s enthusiasm toward digital currency still has a long way to go.
