The upcoming release of the rippled server software version 2.0.0 is set to bring significant changes to the XRP Ledger (XRPL) and is eagerly anticipated by the community. Krippenreiter, an analyst, has provided a detailed analysis of this update, highlighting its impact on various aspects of the ledger. One of the major changes in rippled v2.0.0 is the introduction of a new API version, which represents a significant shift in how requests and responses are processed. This is considered a major breaking change and will require node operators to adapt their systems accordingly.

Another important improvement in this update is the enhancement in Transactions Per Second (TPS) performance. Mark Travis proposed several performance-enhancing changes, which will significantly increase consensus stability and throughput. The community has already noticed the increased TPS capacity, with Ripple’s official website updating the ledger’s capability from handling 1,500 transactions per second to 3,400. These improvements will have a positive impact on the overall efficiency of the XRPL.

The rippled v2.0.0 update also introduces four new amendments to the XRPL. The XChainBridge amendment, presented as “federated sidechains,” aims to enhance the interoperability of XRPL assets across different ledgers using witness servers. Furthermore, the update includes the introduction of a decentralized self-sovereign identity compliant with W3C guidelines, adjustments to trustline settings, and refinements in offer crossing behavior. Additionally, a new RPC method has been developed to facilitate easier connectivity for software applications within the XRPL ecosystem.

In addition to these new features, the rippled v2.0.0 update includes bug fixes and refactoring efforts. Bug fixes that do not interfere with transaction processing can be implemented with new versions, while refactoring aims to make the code more readable, efficient, and well-documented.

The release of rippled v2.0.0 marks a significant milestone for the XRP Ledger, introducing critical enhancements and new functionalities. These developments are crucial for preparing the XRPL ecosystem for sidechains, forks, and bridges, as well as increasing the overall performance and stability of the ledger. The adoption of these updates relies on a consensus process among validators, and amendments require over 80% support from validators over a two-week period. Once accepted, these changes become permanent parts of the ledger, enforceable in all future versions. The rippled v2.0 update is expected to be posted on XRP Scan’s amendment registry soon. With these exciting updates, the future of the XRP Ledger looks promising.
