Denmark suggests that EU farmers should be required to cover the costs of their carbon emissions.

The climate minister has intensified their efforts to include agriculture in the European Union’s carbon dioxide (CO2) trading system. By bringing this major sector under the bloc’s established emissions scheme, the aim is to regulate and reduce greenhouse gas emissions more effectively. The inclusion of agriculture in the CO2 trading system would mean that farmers and agricultural businesses would have to obtain permits or allowances for their emissions, and could potentially earn or trade carbon credits for reducing their environmental impact. This move comes as part of the EU’s wider strategy to combat climate change and meet its ambitious targets for carbon neutrality by 2050.
