: 10 Years Since Ross Ulbricht’s Arrest

Ross Ulbricht, the founder of the darknet marketplace Silk Road, has announced that he has completed ten years in prison. Ulbricht was arrested in 2013 and sentenced to two life imprisonment terms for his involvement in creating and running Silk Road, an illegal online platform that resulted in the seizure of billions of dollars worth of Bitcoin. It is believed that Ulbricht’s family manages his social media account outside of prison since he does not have access to the internet. In a recent post, Ulbricht expressed his fears about spending the rest of his life behind bars.

Despite his controversial actions, Ulbricht has received support from some individuals on social media. Many argue that the punishment he received does not match his crime and that people who have committed more serious offenses have had a chance at redemption. The Silk Road case remains one of the largest crypto seizures in history, with the US government confiscating over $1 billion in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies from a Silk Road wallet in 2020. In addition, 50,676 Bitcoin was seized from an American who stole it from Silk Road in 2012. Ulbricht’s mother has also spoken out, emphasizing her son’s good intentions and her ongoing efforts to secure his release.
