FTX Sues SBF’s Parents for Misappropriated Millions

The FTX debtors have recently taken legal action against the parents of Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), the disgraced founder of FTX, in an attempt to recover funds that were allegedly fraudulently transferred and misappropriated. According to court filings, SBF’s parents, Bankman and Fried, utilized their access and influence within the FTX enterprise to enrich themselves. The debtors are seeking to reclaim substantial sums of money through this legal action.

The court document identifies SBF’s mother as “Fried” and Allan Joseph Bankman as “Bankman”. It alleges that Bankman and Fried took advantage of their access to the defunct crypto exchange for their own personal gain, ultimately harming the debtors involved in the Chapter 11 cases. Bankman, who has a background in tax law and is a former Stanford law professor, initially joined FTX as a pro-bono contributor but gradually assumed a prominent role, advising and overseeing FTX operations. The document states that Bankman portrayed himself as the experienced adult in the room, working alongside inexperienced executives responsible for safeguarding billions of dollars.

Meanwhile, SBF is facing hurdles as his fraud trial approaches on October 3. He has been engaged in legal disputes with prosecutors, who have rejected his court demands. Recently, US prosecutors objected to SBF’s proposed voir dire process, arguing that his suggested questions for jury selection are excessive and time-consuming. They are requesting more neutral questions to be asked by the court.
